These ridiculous companies usually claim to be one-stop shops to take your band to the top, with the ability to arrange everything from a photoshoot to a recording session to a tour. They almost always have sliding pay scales UP FRONT, where you pay a fee for them to "work" for you, and if you pay them more, they'll "work" a little harder, and if you pay them a ton, they'll get you signed to a major label that doesn't even exist anymore, or book you on a 'round the world tour to promote the 4 songs you've written. Bands message me all the time with advice on this type of scam, and I have a REALLY hard time talking them out of handing these complete strangers, located 14 states away, all of their band fund. Bands can do everything those fake management companies will SUPPOSEDLY do, because the bands themselves actually have a stake in the outcome. Bands: DO EVERYTHING YOURSELF FOR AS LONG AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN. Eventually a genuine management company will approach your band, if you are developed enough to work with. But these as*holes trolling Facebook for sucker bands... they have a special place in hell. I warn local bands about the dangers of these crazy presales! Some even tried to play a 40-presale at $16 each show and they ended up paying almost all of it themselves..
